Ladies have their day England

Mundial Alcobendas 2010 Hockey Patines Femenino

Gordon Morrison @ 12 August 2010

Ladies from around the country came together on Ladies day to play competitive roller hockey on Sunday 1st August. 33 players of all ages made up five teams in a round robin competition at the Bushfields Sports centre. Organised by Kirsty Ingham, Lucy Rawinson, Lucy Rivers and Michaela Parfitt the day raised money from entry fees, a raffle and a cake stall in preparation for impending World and European championships.

Emily Sheppard

selected for England Ladies senior roller hockey squad

England women's roller hockey player Emily Sheppard

Emily Sheppard has been selected in the England squad for the World Senior Ladies Roller Hockey Tournament in Spain next month.

It’s the second call-up for the 17-year-old sixth form student at Herne Bay High School pupil who plays for RHC Invicta at Faversham, having made her international debut in Japan two years ago.

Sheppard (pictured) as been named in a squad of 10, including two goalkeepers for the trip to Alcobendas which begins on September 25.

She faces a busy time preparing, combining training with raising money to help finance some of the cost of the trip, by working in a local coffee and ice cream parlour.

She took up the sport at the age of nine, following in the footsteps of older brother Alfie who played at Herne Bay, and met her boyfriend Joe Singleton through the sport.

He also plays for England and they share the driving to training. They will be attending a two-day summer camp at Soham, and also travel to Peterborough once a month for squad sessions.

Invicta secretary Debbie Pugh said: "Emily is a very competent and talented player and a valued and dedicated member of our under-17 team.

"As with all those selected to represent England at Roller Hockey she will have to support herself financially. Any help with the costs no matter how small will be appreciated."
